Lead-list quality starts with clear criteria

A simple checklist for keeping account research relevant, accurate and respectful.

A useful lead list is a focused research artifact, not a measure of how many names a team can collect. Quality depends on relevance, accuracy, a legitimate purpose and responsible handling of contact information.

Define the reason for inclusion

Set clear account-level criteria before research begins. Every included organization should have a defensible connection to the audience you intend to serve.

Check accuracy and freshness

Verify company details against reliable public sources, record when the information was checked, and remove records that are outdated or no longer relevant.

Collect only what you need

Limit personal information to what is necessary for a specific, lawful business purpose. Respect source terms, privacy obligations and people's communication preferences.

Keep permission separate

Researching a business account does not create newsletter consent. Keep opted-in newsletter subscribers in a separate system and add them only after they submit the subscription form.
